About the role:

justteachers is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Wakefield. This full-time role will commence after the October half-term break and offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of pupils with additional learning needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENDCO, and support staff to help pupils access the curriculum, develop independence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within the classroom environment.
  • Deliver targeted interventions and structured support programmes.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required.
  • Assist pupils in accessing learning activities and engaging with the curriculum.
  • Support the social, emotional, and behavioural development of pupils.
  • Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

 

 

 

Pre-requisites:

  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEND within a school or similar setting.
  • Have a good understanding of a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and SEMH.
  • Be patient, caring, and resilient in your approach.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be confident working with pupils on both a one-to-one and small-group basis.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Be able to provide references covering recent employment.
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check.

Desirable Experience

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs.
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
  • Experience delivering literacy, numeracy, or social skills interventions.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
