About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our supportive primary school team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children by providing high-quality pastoral and educational support, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Working closely with teaching staff, the pastoral team, families and external agencies, you will manage a caseload of pupils requiring additional support, delivering targeted interventions, mentoring and guidance to improve attendance, wellbeing, engagement and academic progress.

This role would be Temp-to-Perm provided you were the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build positive and supportive relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Deliver targeted one-to-one and small group interventions to support learning, behaviour, attendance and emotional wellbeing.
  • Identify and remove barriers to learning, enabling pupils to engage successfully in school life.
  • Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs using a relational and inclusive approach.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to plan, deliver and evaluate learning support.
  • Monitor pupil progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to individual support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour, resilience, independence and self-esteem.
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure coordinated support.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, child protection and the wider pastoral provision within the school.
  • Support initiatives that improve attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist with mentoring other support staff where appropriate.

Pre-requisites:

Experience working with primary-aged children in an educational setting.

  • A Level 4 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional social, emotional or behavioural needs.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and inclusive practice.
  • The ability to work independently whilst also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • A calm, caring and resilient approach with a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children.

Experience of working alongside families and external professionals, leading interventions and supporting attendance strategies would be advantageous.
