  • Promote children’s academic, social, emotional, and personal development through positive interactions and encouragement.
  • Provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help with their learning, adapting activities where appropriate.
  • Encourage the development of early literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills through structured and play-based learning opportunities.
  • Help to create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment where every child can thrive.
  • Support classroom organisation, including preparing resources, displays, and learning materials.
  • Foster positive behaviour by promoting clear expectations, routines, and positive reinforcement.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents/carers, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress where appropriate, providing feedback to the class teacher.
  • Support pupils during lunchtimes, educational visits, and wider school activities when required.
  • Promote safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times.
  • Uphold the school’s values and commitment to providing an inclusive, high-quality education for every child.

Pre-requisites:

  • Previous experience working with children within an Early Years Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 setting is desirable.
  • Experience supporting Reception and/or Year 1 pupils within a primary school would be advantageous.
  • A good understanding of child development and early learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, caring, enthusiastic, and flexible approach to supporting young children.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • A commitment to helping every child achieve their full potential.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
