About the role:

A specialist SEMH provision in Holbeach is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team on a full-time basis. The setting supports children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, focusing on building resilience, emotional regulation, and positive engagement with learning. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment where every learner is supported to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver small group and whole-class sessions in the absence of the teacher, ensuring learning remains engaging and accessible.
  • Support the planning and implementation of personalised learning activities tailored to meet SEMH needs.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to adapt lessons, break down tasks, and scaffold learning effectively.
  • Use established behaviour support strategies, including de-escalation techniques, to manage and respond to challenging situations calmly and consistently.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote emotional wellbeing, confidence, and engagement.
  • Monitor and track pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to assessment where appropriate.
  • Act as a role model, promoting positive behaviour, resilience, and independence across the setting.

Pre-requisites:

  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in schools or alternative provisions.
  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience, with confidence leading lessons independently.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs and maintain pupil engagement
