About the role:

justteachers is seeking a compassionate, resilient and adaptable Support Worker to join a specialist secondary Alternative Provision in the Harrogate area. This full-time role is to start as soon as possible, with shortlisting currently taking place.

This unique provision operates across three sites within Harrogate, supporting young people who have experienced barriers to mainstream education. Pupils typically present with SEMH needs, ASC, anxiety and additional learning needs, requiring a consistent, relationship‑centred and structured approach to support.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support to students with additional needs
  • Supporting learners across multiple sites, ensuring consistency and routine
  • Assisting with engagement in lessons and promoting positive behaviour
  • Using trauma‑informed and restorative approaches to support emotional regulation
  • Building strong, trusting relationships to improve attendance and participation
  • Supporting transitions between activities, lessons and sites
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Contributing to safeguarding, behaviour monitoring and student support plans

 

 

 

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience working with young people in SEMH, SEND, alternative provision, care or youth settings
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to work flexibly across different environments
  • Confidence in supporting students with complex needs
  • Two professional references from an educational or care-based setting
