About the role:

We are supporting a nurturing SEMH school in Grantham that provides tailored support for children and young people across all age groups. The school is dedicated to nurturing each learner’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and academic development, helping them build confidence, resilience, and independence within a structured and supportive environment.

This is a full-time position, available immediately and continuing into September, ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful difference in young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent, nurturing support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them feel safe, understood, and ready to engage in learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to deliver adapted and accessible learning activities, breaking tasks down and supporting pupils step-by-step.
  • Support pupils to regulate their emotions and behaviour, using calm, patient approaches and agreed strategies.
  • Reinforce routines, boundaries, and positive behaviours to create a stable and predictable learning environment.
  • Use a range of supportive techniques such as visual aids, clear instructions, modelling, and hands-on activities to maintain engagement and participation.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their social, emotional, and academic development.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within schools, SEMH settings, care, youth work, or similar environments.
  • Understanding of SEMH needs and the ability to adapt support to meet individual emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Confidence supporting learning and managing behaviour in a calm, consistent, and positive manner.
  • Ability to remain patient, resilient, and empathetic in a dynamic environment.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent experience are desirable.
