About the role:]

A welcoming special school near Boston supporting primary-aged pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, from Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The school is committed to providing a nurturing, structured environment where every child can develop their communication, independence, and confidence through highly personalised approaches. In this role, you will work flexibly across different classes and pathways, adapting your support to meet the varying needs of pupils. This role offers both full-time and part-time opportunities to start ASAP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of highly differentiated and sensory-adapted learning activities by working closely with teaching staff to break down tasks and scaffold learning for pupils with diverse needs.
  • Reinforce communication, engagement, and key developmental skills, enabling pupils to access learning in a way that is appropriate to their individual abilities.
  • Use a range of structured and supportive strategies – including visual aids, communication tools (such as PECS or Makaton), clear routines, modelling, and hands-on sensory activities – to encourage participation and maintain engagement.
  • Provide consistent, calm support to help pupils regulate their emotions and behaviours, using positive reinforcement and individualised strategies to guide them safely back into learning.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in schools, care settings, or similar environments, particularly those with complex or additional needs.
  • Understanding of a range of special educational needs, including MLD and PMLD, and the importance of adapting approaches to suit each individual learner.
  • Confidence using varied support strategies, including communication methods, sensory approaches, and structured routines to help pupils engage and progress.
  • Relevant training or qualifications such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Health and Social Care, Childcare, or equivalent experience.
