About the role:

We are seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Support Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Nelson from September. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for the full academic year, offering long-term supply work supporting pupils with communication needs. The school is known for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral care, and commitment to helping every child reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with speech, language, and communication needs in the classroom and through targeted interventions
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Deliver speech and language programmes as directed by specialists
  • Monitor and track pupil progress, providing feedback to staff and parents where appropriate
  • Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports all learners

Pre-requisites:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or speech and language support
  • Proven experience of supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs
  • Strong knowledge of speech and language intervention strategies and SEN support
  • Two education or school-based references
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to supporting pupils with additional needs
