About the role:

A supportive and forward‑thinking secondary school in Pontefract is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to join their team on a full‑time basis. The ideal start date is as soon as possible, though some flexibility is available for the right candidate. This is a predominantly out‑of‑classroom role, working closely with pastoral teams, senior leaders and teaching staff to support behaviour, engagement and wellbeing across the school. You will play a key part in helping students regulate, re‑focus and reintegrate positively into learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Behaviour Intervention — Support students displaying challenging behaviour, using de‑escalation and restorative approaches.
  • Pastoral Support — Build positive relationships, provide mentoring and help students develop emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Out‑of‑Classroom Supervision — Oversee reflection rooms, internal inclusion spaces and behaviour hubs to ensure a calm, structured environment.
  • Liaison & Reporting — Work closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding teams and teachers to share updates, concerns and progress.
  • Behaviour Policy Implementation — Uphold school expectations consistently and support students in meeting behaviour standards.
  • Crisis Response — Assist with on‑call systems, responding to incidents promptly and professionally.

Pre-requisites:

  • UK School Experience — Minimum 6 months working in a UK secondary school or similar setting.
  • Strong Behaviour Management — Confident supporting students with a range of behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Communication & Resilience — Calm, patient and able to build trust with young people.
  • Availability — Able to commit to a full‑time role with an immediate or flexible start.
