About the role:

justteachers is recruiting for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant specialized in Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) for a specialist provision in Leicester City. This role involves supporting students who may face significant barriers to communication and social interaction. You will work within a highly specialized team, utilizing sensory-based approaches and visual aids to help students navigate their school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for students with ASC, helping them follow their individualized Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Implement de-escalation techniques and positive behavior support to manage sensory overstimulation or frustration.
  • Assist in the delivery of speech and language therapy targets and sensory integration activities.
  • Provide personal care and support during transitions, lunchtimes, and outdoor play.
  • Keep detailed records of student engagement and milestones to share with the SENCO and parents.

Pre-requisites:

  • Minimum of a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience in an SEN environment.
  • Specific training or experience in Autism support (e.g., Team Teach, PECS, or Makaton) is highly advantageous.
  • A resilient and calm nature with a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team of therapists and educators.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance.
