About the role:

A welcoming and inclusive school in Grimsby is seeking a SEND Support Assistant to work with pupils who require additional support to access learning. The school supports children and young people with a range of special educational needs, providing structured routines, adapted teaching approaches, and a nurturing environment to help pupils build confidence, independence, and engagement. This role is available to start ASAP, with full‑time and part‑time options considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEND, helping them access learning activities and classroom routines.
  • Support the delivery of differentiated and accessible learning, breaking tasks down and scaffolding work to meet individual needs.
  • Reinforce learning and key concepts to help pupils develop understanding and confidence.
  • Use a range of support strategies, including visual aids, clear instructions, modelling, and hands‑on activities.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement through calm, consistent, child‑centred support.
  • Support pupils with regulation, transitions, and sensory needs, helping them remain focused and ready to learn.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in schools, tutoring, care, youth work, or related settings.
  • A good understanding of special educational needs and how to adapt support to meet individual learning styles.
  • Confidence supporting learning through clear explanations, modelling tasks, and encouraging engagement.
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm when supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Relevant training or qualifications such as Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, Psychology, or equivalent practical experience.
