About the role:

A specialist school near Peterborough supports secondary‑aged students with a wide range of SEND needs, including cognitive learning delays, communication difficulties, and behaviour linked to unmet learning needs. The curriculum is centred around core subjects, personalised pathways, and developing key life skills.

This full‑time role begins the week before Easter half‑term with a trail day ASAP, it will be to continue into the next academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver adapted lessons that are accessible for students working below age‑related expectations, ensuring tasks are broken down, clearly modelled, and scaffolded to support progress at an appropriate pace.
  • Use SEND‑focused teaching strategies such as visual supports, structured routines, repetition, simplified instruction, and practical, hands‑on learning to maintain engagement and reinforce understanding.
  • Support positive behaviour linked to learning needs, using consistent routines, clear expectations, and calm redirection to help students remain focused and regulate within the classroom.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience teaching or delivering structured learning activities to children or young people with SEND needs- this may include mainstream SEND roles, specialist provisions, alternative settings or tutoring.
  • Understanding of a range of SEND needs (e.g. learning delays, cognition & learning needs, communication difficulties, Autism, or processing difficulties) and how these can affect behaviour, engagement, and pace of learning.
  • Knowledge of effective SEND teaching strategies including breaking down tasks, modelling, chunking learning, using visuals, and supporting students with retention and focus.
  • Relevant qualifications such as QTS, PGCE, or other education‑related certification.
