Teacher of History Halifax

Justteachers recruitment agency is recruiting for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable History Teacher for a respected secondary school in Halifax. As a History Teacher, you will have the opportunity to engage students in the study of the past, foster critical thinking skills, historical empathy and an appreciation for the complexities of human societies.

The role is to start in September 2024, on a long-term supply basis, with expectation for the role to become a permanent position for the successful applicant after an initial 12 week period of supply.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, deliver and assess engaging history lessons that cover a wide range of historical periods, events and themes, catering to the needs and interests of students at various levels
• Utilise a variety of instructional strategies, primary and secondary sources, and multimedia resources to bring history to life and make it relevant and accessible to students
• Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to express their viewpoints, and engage in respectful dialogue about historical issues and controversies
• Integrate critical thinking, research and analytical skills into history instruction, challenging students to evaluate historical evidence, construct arguments and draw connections between past and present
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement cross-curricular projects, thematic units and historical concepts
• Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback and support to help students achieve academic success and develop as lifelong learners

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in History, Education or related field
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching certification
• Previous experience teaching history at the secondary school level is preferred
• Strong subject knowledge and passion for history education, with expertise in one or more historical periods or topics
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Ability to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking and historical inquiry
• Commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in history education and addressing sensitive or controversial historical topics with sensitivity and respect
