Do you have subject knowledge in a vocational subject or skill such as; beauty, hairdressing or something similar like Health and Social care?

We are looking for a trained specialist in a range of vocational subjects to support an alternative provision we work with. The role is temporary part-time to begin with but has the potential to be permanent. The educational facility is in the Peterborough area and supports girls that may find it difficult to be in a mainstream setting. The Pupils within the setting will have EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) and have support with their social, emotional and behavioural development. The students will have been though challenging experiences that have left them with low self-esteem, behaviour and mental health needs.

They offer their students functional skills and a range of GCSE and BTEC courses alongside helping them develop life skills for employment. Teaching groups are very small and are supported by a teaching assistant. The facilities are well equipped for a range of learning activities such as; ICT, Science, Food Technology, Art, fitness and a Library to support studies. Flexibility is essential to their approach to the curriculum they provide as they recognise the individual needs and interests of their learners and adapt the subjects they offer accordingly.

The school is looking for someone to instruct classes in areas to include, indoor and outdoor activities and facilitate gym sessions.

Successful candidates will have the following skills:

  • ability motivate and provide positive welcoming learning environment
  • excellent communication skills
  • planning and organisational skills
  • the ability to develop good working relationships
  • the ability to work in a team as well as use your own initiative
  • organisation and time-management skills
  • the ability to manage classes and deal with challenging behaviour
  • Team Teach experience (although this can be provided via on the job training)
  • Have an empathetic and nurturing approach

This is a fantastic opportunity; this is also a chance to make a real difference to the lives of pupils and students, many of which have previously experienced difficultly in sustained learning within a mainstream provision. In addition, the role could be permanent and is to start ASAP.
