About the role:

Justteachers are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive school in Great Yarmouth that is seeking a caring, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team for an immediate start.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils manage their behaviour, develop positive relationships, build confidence, and engage successfully with their education.

The role is full-time and offers the opportunity to become an integral part of a supportive school environment, working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who require additional behavioural and pastoral support.
  • Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with pupils.
  • Support pupils in managing their emotions and developing positive strategies for regulating their behaviour.
  • Encourage pupils to engage positively with learning and school life.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual behaviour and support strategies.
  • Help identify triggers and barriers that may impact a pupil’s behaviour, wellbeing, and engagement.
  • Promote positive behaviour and reinforce the school’s expectations, routines, and policies.
  • Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience, independence, and social skills.
  • Assist pupils in returning to learning following incidents or periods of dysregulation.
  • Monitor pupil behaviour and progress, providing appropriate feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records relating to pupil support and behaviour.
  • Contribute to a safe, calm, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all pupils at all times.

Pre-requisites:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, pastoral, care, or support setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional, or social needs would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient, consistent, and resilient approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and establish appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a positive and supportive manner.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in difficult situations.
  • A flexible, organised, and proactive approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Two recent education-based references.
