About the role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEND Mentor to join a supportive educational setting in Warrington from September on a long-term basis. This rewarding role involves providing tailored one-to-one support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to engage positively with learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual academic and personal targets. You will play a crucial role in fostering a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where the pupil can thrive.

Working closely with teachers, SEND professionals, parents, and external agencies, you will support the pupil both inside and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will be patient, resilient, and relationship-focused, with the ability to understand and respond to individual needs effectively. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful difference in a young person’s educational journey and supporting them to overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support tailored to the pupil’s individual learning, social, and emotional needs.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship that promotes confidence, engagement, and personal development.
  • Support the implementation of strategies outlined within the pupil’s EHCP and support plans.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and assist with emotional regulation using agreed school strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENDCOs, parents, and other professionals to support pupil progress and wellbeing.

 

Pre-requisites:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND in an educational, care, mentoring, or support setting.
  • A strong understanding of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, communication difficulties, or learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach to supporting children and young people.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.
