Justteachers is seeking a compassionate and patient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Complex Needs SEN School in Leicester. This school provides tailored education for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism (ASC), sensory impairments, and complex medical needs. The role involves offering dedicated 1:1 support to a student, ensuring they can engage, communicate, and thrive in a nurturing learning environment.

This is a full-time role to start after the February half term on a supply basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a student with complex needs, assisting with learning activities, communication, and sensory engagement.
  • Support the implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) to meet the student’s unique learning and developmental needs.
  • Use specialist communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices to facilitate interaction and engagement.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and medical needs where necessary, following guidance from healthcare professionals.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with complex needs, PMLD, or severe learning difficulties.
  • Knowledge of alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory-based strategies is highly desirable.
  • Ability to provide personal care support where required.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting students with a range of needs.
  • Ability to provide two education or school-based references.
