Are you a caring and dedicated individual looking to make a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? We are currently seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our specialist Primary Complex Needs School in Norwich.

This school offers a supportive, nurturing environment for children with a range of complex needs, including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism (ASC), and sensory impairments. We work closely with families and professionals to ensure every child receives the tailored support they need to thrive.

The role is available on both a full-time and part-time basis, starting after the February half term, on a supply contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for children with complex needs.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support, ensuring the dignity and well-being of every child.
  • Engage children in learning through sensory-based and therapeutic strategies.
  • Support children in developing communication skills, using tools like PECS, Makaton, or assistive technology.
  • Assist in managing behaviour calmly and effectively, following the school’s behaviour management policies.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and therapists to deliver individualised learning plans.
  • Foster independence and life skills in a structured and supportive environment.

To be considered for this role, candidates must have: 

  • Experience working with children with complex needs, preferably in a school or care setting.
  • A Teaching Assistant or care based qualification is desired but not essential.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by children with PMLD, autism, and sensory impairments.
  • A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach to supporting children’s learning and development.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and physical support.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with staff, families, and external professionals.
  • Two references from education or care-based roles.
