We are seeking an experienced and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) setting in Meriden, Coventry. This school supports students who face significant emotional and behavioural challenges, helping them re-engage with education in a structured and therapeutic environment.

This is a full-time role on a supply basis to start as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead small-group and one-to-one sessions, delivering planned interventions and supporting individual learning needs.
  • Support students in managing emotions and behaviours, using de-escalation and therapeutic strategies.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons, adapting materials to suit the needs of the students.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Implement the school’s behaviour management strategies, remaining calm and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Promote independence, resilience, and social skills, helping students develop confidence for their future.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs, preferably in a school or alternative provision setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and therapeutic approaches.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to lead learning sessions and support colleagues.
  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach to supporting young people with complex needs.
  • Two references from education or care-based roles.
