Justteachers are seeking an experienced and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEN school in Northampton, working with pupils aged 4 to 18. This full-time role is set to start as soon as possible, with interviews and shortlisting currently underway. Initially, the position will be on a supply basis, with the potential for a permanent contract for the right candidate.

The school caters to students with a wide range of complex needs, including severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, and speech, language, and communication challenges. As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting an individual student, helping them engage with the curriculum and assisting with their emotional and social development in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Offering one-on-one support to a student with Special Educational Needs.
  • Helping the student engage with classroom activities and the curriculum.
  • Supporting their emotional, social, and behavioural development.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the student’s progress to the class teacher.
  • Assisting in the implementation of Educational Healthcare Plans (EHCPs) to ensure the student’s needs are fully addressed.
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure consistent and tailored support for the student.

To be considered for this role, candidates must have:

  • Qualification in Teaching Assistant/Care or relevant subject.
  • Previous experience working 1:1 with students, ideally in a SEN setting.
  • A compassionate, patient, and flexible approach to supporting children with a range of complex needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with severe learning difficulties, autism, and communication difficulties.
  • Two recent education or school-based references
