We are looking for a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH setting in Nuneaton. This school supports students aged 11-16 who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them re-engage with education in a structured and nurturing environment.

The school is committed to providing a therapeutic approach to education, working closely with families and professionals to ensure positive outcomes for students who may be struggling in mainstream settings.

This full-time role is set to begin after the February half term on a supply basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and group support for students, helping them manage their emotions and behaviours effectively.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage students’ engagement with learning.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviours calmly and consistently, following the school’s behaviour management policies.
  • Support students in developing coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Promote social skills, communication, and teamwork through structured activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Help students develop life skills and confidence to overcome barriers to their education.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, preferably in a school or care setting.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH and strategies to support their development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Two references from education or care-based roles.
