We are currently looking for a Autism Support Worker to join our school near Boston from after February half term. This is a rewarding role supporting students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in their academic and social development.

Job Description:
As an Autism Support Worker, you will work closely with students who have autism, helping them to engage fully in school life. You will support students in both individual and group settings, ensuring their educational, social, and emotional needs are met. Working under the guidance of the class teacher, you will help create an inclusive and supportive environment where students can thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with autism, both in the classroom and during school activities.
  • Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored learning plans, ensuring that students’ individual needs are met.
  • Help students to engage with the curriculum, adapt learning materials, and offer support during lessons.
  • Manage and support students’ behaviour, helping them develop positive coping strategies and reducing anxiety or frustration.
  • Work closely with the teaching staff to create a positive learning environment and offer strategies for inclusive teaching.
  • Encourage positive interactions with peers and support students in building friendships.
  • Assist with personal care needs if required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with autism or special educational needs.
  • Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and its impact on learning and behaviour.
  • Strong communication skills, both with students and the wider school community (teachers, parents, and external professionals).
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and provide positive reinforcement strategies.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with the use of visual aids, social stories, or other autism-specific strategies is desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in autism support, child development, or special educational needs (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent) are desirable.
  • An enhanced DBS
  • Two education or school-based references.
  • You must have the legal requirements to work in the UK.
