Our inclusive and dynamic primary school in Dewsbury is seeking a committed Primary Teaching Assistant to join the team as soon as possible. This is a full-time role, working across both Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2), with a focus on supporting pupils with high SEN needs.

As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work closely with class teachers to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and social, emotional, and mental health challenges (SEMH).
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of differentiated activities to meet the individual needs of pupils.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to help children access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting social skills, resilience, and confidence.
  • Support children in managing transitions and routines throughout the school day.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, contributing to individual education plans (IEPs) and reviews.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external specialists to implement targeted interventions.
  • Encourage independence and positive behavior, employing de-escalation strategies when needed.
  • Provide support during playtimes and other non-classroom activities, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.

We are looking for a caring and proactive individual who has:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally in a primary school setting with high SEN needs.
  • A strong understanding of SEN, including effective strategies for supporting pupils with ASD, SLCN, SEMH, and other learning challenges.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent) – advantageous but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to support pupils with complex needs and behaviours.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt in a busy school environment.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
