Justteachers are looking for Teaching Assistants to work within a special educational needs provisions in the Blackburn and surrounding areas.

You will be required to support students with special educational needs particularly those with Autism within the classroom, directed by the teacher but also using their own experience and initiative to help pupils succeed in their learning.

The school prides themselves on providing high quality specialist education for children and young adults aged 2 – 19. The school cater for a wide range of learning disabilities including, Autism, Complex Medical Needs and Sensory Impairments. All pupils who attend the school have an Education, Health and Care Plan EHCP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with SEND needs, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Help students with learning activities, assisting with tasks, and providing encouragement and guidance.
  • Adapt resources and materials to meet the specific needs of individual students.
  • Assist in the implementation of students’ Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP).
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
  • Support students in developing social skills, independence, and emotional regulation.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students, parents, and other staff members.

Ideal candidates will have some of the following:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with a variety of complex needs such as Autism, Behavioural Needs, Social and Emotional Mental Health, Sensory Impairment, Physical Disabilities
  • Patient and resilient and able to see behind the behaviour of children with ASC
  • Happy to work with students from Primary age through to Secondary
  • Experience of using communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, Visual Cards
  • Happy to work with children on a 1:1 or group basis
  • Passionate, committed and outgoing
  • An ability to improvise and support others in impromptu situations
  • A clear enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • A level 2 or 3 TA qualification.
  • Qualifications in child psychology, mental health support, or relevant fields.
  • Experience in supporting children with special educational needs (SEN).
