Justteachers is seeking a Supply Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a Specialist School in Preston. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children.

The Role:
As a Supply Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide assistance to students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties as a result of Trauma. Your role will involve creating a positive and supportive classroom environment, helping students develop coping strategies, and promoting overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in managing their emotions and behaviour in a classroom setting.
  • Assist teachers in implementing individualised support plans for students.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting a sense of trust and security.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to create a holistic approach to student well-being.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress and behaviour, providing feedback to staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children in a school or similar setting.
  • Understanding of mental health issues and their impact on learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Previous experience working with children in a professional setting.
  • Two education or school-based references.
  • A clear enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • A level 2 or 3 TA qualification.
  • Qualifications in child psychology, mental health support, or relevant fields.
  • Experience in supporting children with special educational needs (SEN).
