An opportunity has arisen for a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring that students with SEND receive the support they need to thrive in the classroom.

The school caters for students aged 2-19 with a range of complex developmental disabilities including SEND; ASC, MLD and PMLD. This is highly supportive school where every child is provided with the opportunity to gain an education, to feel safe and to be valued as an individual.

Job Overview:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs. You will assist in creating an inclusive and positive learning environment, helping students engage with the curriculum, and ensuring their emotional and academic needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEND on a 1:1 basis or in small groups in both class activities and independent tasks.
  • Assist in the delivery of specific interventions and programs tailored to students’ needs.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students, helping them build confidence and resilience.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure effective communication and support for students with SEND.
  • Assist with the preparation of teaching resources and classroom setup.
  • Monitor and track students’ progress, reporting to the class teacher.

Role requirements;

  • Experience working with children, preferably in a SEND setting (training can be provided).
  • Strong understanding of SEND and the challenges students face.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with children, colleagues, and parents.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the varying needs of students.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEND (Desirable but not essential).
  • A clear Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one
  • The legal right to work in the UK
