Justteachers are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team at an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Boston. This alternative provision caters to students with challenging behaviour, offering tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential. This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who need it most.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with the curriculum.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behaviour and education plans, working closely with teachers and SENCOs.
  • Support students in managing challenging behaviours, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, building trusting relationships with students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to deliver holistic support.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, adapting strategies as needed to meet their needs.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour, ideally in an educational or care setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • A patient, empathetic, and supportive approach to working with vulnerable students.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a proactive attitude.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed both academically and emotionally.
