£76 - £9 PER DAY DEPENDENT UPON EXPERIENCE

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed Special Needs Teaching Assistant in Blackburn. This role includes working 8.30am – 3.30pm Monday to Friday or part time depending on what days are best for you. There is a degree of flexibility so the successful candidate will be placed where they are most comfortable/ confident i.e. preferred age range.

The pay per day is very competitive starting at £76 – £90 per day depending on experience, based on a 6.5-hour shift. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant and busy school with excellent facilities and a supportive leadership team.

The School caters for the needs of learners aged 5-16 years with moderate learning difficulties, ASD and complex needs.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Supporting students with SEND
  • To support a high standard of learning, development and care for children ages 5-16 years.
  • To ensure that the school is a safe environment for children, staff and others.
  • To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development.
  • To support activities which ensure each pupil is working towards their learning goals.
  • To be a key person, keeping accurate assessments of children’s learning and progress.
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers/social workers informing them about the school and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
  • To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plans for each pupil.

 You will have:

  • Experience working in a school or care environment e.g. Residential home/Care home/Nursing home
  • Experience or a desire to work with Special needs, such as; Autism, Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH), Visual Impairment, Epilepsy, Sensory Impairment, Physical Disabilities, Speech Language and Communicational Needs including Non-Verbal, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and Behavioural Needs

 Other useful experience/skills would be;

  • Experience with any of the following training; Makaton, PECS, BSL, Team Teach, Manual Handling, Safeguarding, Epilepsy Training
  • Working with pupils/service users on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Experience working in a challenging environment
  • Passionate, friendly and outgoing
  • Comfortable with Personal Care (if required)
  • An ability to improvise and support others in impromptu situations

Successful applicants require;

  • Two references from within an educational/nursery environment/care setting
