We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and dynamic SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school, with a specific focus on supporting students experiencing EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance).

Role Overview:

Starting in September, this role will initially be a temporary position, with the opportunity to become permanent. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant with a focus on EBSA, you will play a crucial role in supporting the emotional and educational needs of students who struggle with school attendance due to emotional and mental health challenges. Working closely with teachers, school staff, and parents, you will help create a safe and nurturing environment that encourages attendance and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Students: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students experiencing EBSA, helping them to overcome barriers to attendance and learning.
  • Develop Strategies: Work with the school team to develop and implement effective strategies and interventions to support students’ emotional and mental health needs.
  • Build Relationships: Establish positive and trusting relationships with students, encouraging their emotional development and confidence in attending school.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other school staff to create individualized support plans for students.
  • Monitor Progress: Track and report on the progress of students, adapting support strategies as needed to ensure their success.
  • Parental Engagement: Engage with parents and caregivers, providing them with guidance and support to help their children succeed in the school environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience working in an SEMH setting or with students experiencing EBSA is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and patience are essential. Ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in education, child development, psychology, or related fields are preferred.
  • DBS Check: A valid DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
