Job Description:

As a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant, you will support students with diverse learning needs in a specialist school setting. Your role will involve working closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure that all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support for Students:
    • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEND.
    • Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Help students with their academic and social development.
  • Classroom Assistance:
    • Aid teachers in the preparation of classroom materials.
    • Support classroom management and behavior strategies.
    • Facilitate inclusive learning activities.
  • Specialist Support:
    • Work within a specialist school environment tailored for students with specific needs such as autism, sensory impairments, or complex learning difficulties.
    • Utilize specialized resources and techniques to support student learning and development.
    • Adapt learning materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about student progress.
    • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Assist with personal care tasks as necessary.
    • Provide support during school trips and extracurricular activities.
    • Monitor and report on student progress.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young adults with SEND.
  • Understanding of various special educational needs and appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, are desirable but not always necessary depending on experience.
