Job Description:

Justteachers is seeking a passionate and dedicated Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant for a fixed-term, 1-year contract to start asap. This role is ideal for individuals who have a keen interest in sports and outdoor activities and are enthusiastic about using these interests to support students’ social, emotional, and educational development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support for Students:
    • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEMH needs.
    • Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to students’ SEMH requirements.
    • Support students’ social and emotional development through positive reinforcement and relationship-building.
  • Classroom Assistance:
    • Aid teachers in the preparation and delivery of lesson plans.
    • Support classroom management and behavior strategies.
    • Facilitate inclusive and engaging learning activities.
  • Sports and Outdoor Activities:
    • Use sports and outdoor activities as tools to engage and motivate students.
    • Plan and lead physical education sessions and outdoor learning experiences.
    • Encourage teamwork, physical fitness, and personal development through active participation.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other support staff.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about student progress and wellbeing.
    • Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions as required.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Assist with personal care tasks if necessary.
    • Provide support during school trips and extracurricular activities.
    • Monitor and report on student progress and development.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young adults with SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of SEMH strategies and interventions.
  • A strong passion for sports and outdoor activities, with the ability to inspire and engage students through these mediums.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, are desirable but not always necessary depending on experience.
