Job Description:
justteachers is working with a primary school in the historic town of Skipton, who are dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. As a 1:1 Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting a child with autism in their academic, social, and emotional development. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCo, you will create a tailored learning experience that meets the child’s individual needs. Your goal will be to promote the child’s independence, confidence, and engagement in the classroom. This role will be on a full-time, long-term basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a primary-aged child with autism, helping them access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
  • Implement and adapt strategies to support the child’s learning, communication, and social interaction.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo to follow an individualized education plan (IEP).
  • Assist in managing behaviour and promoting positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment, ensuring the child’s well-being at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals to provide updates on the child’s progress.
  • Support the child during transitions and in social situations, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Help with any personal care needs, if required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs (SEN) is essential.
  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or special educational needs is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum conditions and strategies to support autistic children in a school setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, caring approach.
