EBSA Specialist for Special Educational Needs (SEN) School

Position: EBSA Specialist (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)

Type: Full-time

Our mission is to empower our students to achieve their full potential, both academically and emotionally. We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced EBSA Specialist to join our team and support our students who face challenges in attending school due to emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).

Role Overview: As an EBSA Specialist, you will work closely with students, families, and school staff to identify, assess, and support children and young people experiencing EBSA. Your role will involve developing and implementing personalized intervention plans, providing emotional and practical support, and fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Identification:
    • Conduct assessments to identify students experiencing EBSA.
    • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop a comprehensive understanding of each student’s needs.
  • Intervention and Support:
    • Develop and implement individualized support plans to address the specific needs of students with EBSA.
    • Provide one-on-one and group interventions to help students manage anxiety and emotional distress related to school attendance.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators, and school counsellors to create a supportive and inclusive environment.
    • Engage with parents and families to offer guidance and support in managing their child’s EBSA.
    • Liaise with external agencies and mental health professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Track and monitor the progress of students with EBSA, adjusting support plans as necessary.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interventions and outcomes.
  • Training and Awareness:
    • Provide training and support to school staff on understanding and managing EBSA.
    • Promote awareness and understanding of EBSA within the school community.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEN, particularly those experiencing EBSA.
  • Strong understanding of emotional and mental health issues affecting school attendance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Empathy, patience, and a passion for supporting children and young people.
