Our partner school in Boston, Lincolnshire, is dedicated to providing exceptional support and education for children who have experienced trauma and may struggle in mainstream educational settings. They strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Pastoral Mentor to join our dedicated team.

Role Overview: As a Pastoral Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the emotional and social development of our students. You will work closely with students who have had traumatic pasts, providing them with the guidance and support they need to succeed. Your role will involve building strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and develop positive coping strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group mentoring sessions to support students’ emotional and social well-being.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans for students with complex needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Monitor and track students’ progress, providing regular feedback and reports.
  • Support students in developing positive behaviour, self-esteem, and coping strategies.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and activities that promote emotional resilience and well-being.
  • Act as a role model and advocate for students, promoting a positive school culture.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide pastoral care policies and practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with children and young people, particularly those who have experienced trauma or have SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with traumatic pasts and the ability to implement effective support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field are desirable but not essential.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
