Autism Learning Support Assistant

If you are looking for a rewarding career where you can truly make a difference then Justteachers are currently working on behalf of a number of special schools in the north of Leeds who require full time and part time Learning Support Assistant to work with Autistic children.

The schools provide a caring and nurturing environment and offer excellent CPD opportunities as well as a sense of community and belonging for their staff.

Justteachers would be keen to speak with people who have experience working within special schools. Whilst classroom knowledge is desirable, if you have experience working first-hand with children or adults with autism or other complex needs we would love to hear from you!

Candidates will ideally have some of the following:

• Have experience working within special schools, mainstream schools, healthcare, social care, youth work or other similar settings
• Have experience working with children or adults with complex needs such as Autism, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Social and Emotional Mental Health, Speech and Language Difficulties, Visual Impairment or Hearing Impairment and other complex needs
• Have a knowledge or experience of using PECS, Makaton or other communication methods
• Have Manual Handling, Epilepsy and other relevant CPD training
• Have Team Teach or other de-escalation training
• Have an understanding of seeing behind the behaviours of children and having a willingness to develop progress
• Are calm, caring and nurturing
• An interest in working within school settings and developing their knowledge of SEN curriculum
