Job Vacancy: Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher

Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dedicated Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) teacher to join a vibrant and supportive school in Batley, West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality language education across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, fostering a love of languages, and helping students achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Learning:
    • Deliver engaging, well-structured lessons in French, Spanish, or another relevant language, in line with the national curriculum.
    • Foster an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages students to actively participate and develop their language skills.
    • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring all students can make progress.
    • Use a range of teaching strategies, resources, and technology to enhance learning.
  • Assessment & Feedback:
    • Regularly assess students’ progress through formative and summative assessments.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them improve their language skills.
    • Track student performance and communicate progress with parents and guardians through meetings and reports.
  • Curriculum Development & Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with the MFL department to plan and develop the MFL curriculum.
    • Contribute to the development of extra-curricular language activities, including language clubs, cultural events, and trips.
    • Attend departmental meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Pastoral Support:
    • Provide pastoral care and support to students, helping them to overcome any challenges they may face in their language learning.
    • Monitor student welfare and progress, liaising with pastoral teams and other staff as required.
  • Professional Development:
    • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) to keep up to date with the latest educational trends, resources, and teaching practices.
    • Attend regular meetings and training sessions to improve teaching effectiveness.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Degree in Modern Foreign Languages or a relevant subject area.
  • Proven experience teaching MFL at Key Stage 3 and 4 (KS3 & KS4) in a UK secondary school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum for MFL and the ability to plan and deliver lessons to meet individual student needs.
  • A genuine passion for teaching languages and inspiring students to achieve their best.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to differentiate teaching for students of varying abilities.
  • Knowledge of modern teaching resources and digital tools to enhance learning.

Requirements:

  • DBS Check: A current, clear Enhanced DBS check (or the willingness to apply for one).
  • Right to Work: The successful candidate must have legal right to work in the UK.
  • References from previous employers will be required.

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching more than one MFL (e.g., French and Spanish) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge or experience of delivering A-Level MFL (desirable but not essential).
