Position Overview: We are seeking a caring and motivated Teaching Assistant to provide valuable support to students at an alternative provision in Boston. Our partner school serves students who may struggle in mainstream education due to various factors, including behavioural, social, or emotional difficulties. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine desire to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, and will play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized learning plans and behaviour management strategies for students.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who require additional assistance with academic tasks or social skills development.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, offering encouragement, guidance, and emotional support as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of behaviour intervention plans and strategies to promote positive behaviour and minimize disruptions in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure that students receive comprehensive support and resources to address their needs.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch, recess, and transitions between classes.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred).
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational or youth-focused setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to supporting students who may be facing challenges.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and effectively manage behaviour in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and respond to unexpected situations as they arise.
