Vic Verecondi - Australian Teacher Registered with just Teachers
Teaching in the North of England provides a real taste of UK life, according to Australian teacher Vic Verecondi.
Vic, who has been teaching maths at schools across Yorkshire for the past 7 years, said the UK is an interesting, challenging and diverse country in which to teach.
He said: “People in the North are friendlier than in London and I think many Australians would feel more at home in the North because of the warmth of Northerners and also for the activities on offer such as fell running, cycling and rugby. For a young teacher wanting the adventure of visiting London and the city’s tourist attractions, who wants to be around fellow Aussies, that’s fine but for those wanting to experience the real England, the best place to be is in the North.”
Vic first came to teach in the UK on a 2-year-working visa and combined it with travelling around Europe. He returned to teach in the UK in 2000 with his wife Isobel and their then 3-year-old son Luca we now live in Embsay, near Skipton, along with their second son Joe. He said his family had settled well in the UK and had adapted very well to living overseas.
Vic’s receives regular employment via Just Teachers Ltd, one of the UK’s leading teacher recruitment agencies, which has offices across the UK.
“Working with an agency provides me with a great deal of flexibility and suits my lifestyle because it allows me to work in a lot of different schools and meet a wide range of people. The consultants at Just Teachers are very good at understanding teachers and the kind of stresses which go hand in hand with the job. They are there to provide reassurance when I need it and on occasions are a good sounding off board when I’ve had a bad day!”
Vic said the reason why he had chosen to contact Just Teachers was because they took the hassle out of the job hunting.
“For teachers from Australia contemplating coming to the UK, Just Teachers are able to do all the leg work for you including all the admin and looking for accommodation, which means the only thing the teacher has to do is pack and turn up for their first day in an English classroom. They make the transition seamless and remove the hassle away from moving overseas.”
