CHILDCARE:
No one resource can promise to tell you all you need to
know about living and teaching in the UK. But Justteachers
have tried to cover it all!
The following points are probably very important about
childcare in Britain:
- Children are protected under UK law and it is your responsibility to ensure that your children are safe and well cared for
- Never leave young children alone
- If you need to leave your children, perhaps while you are at work, make sure that the childcare is provided by a suitable person
- In Britain there is a Registered Childminder system, and these people are recommended
- Every child aged 3 or 4 can have free childcare from the start of the term after their 3rd birthday
- You can find out all about childcare in Britain from the Family Information Service
- It is generally illegal in the UK for anyone to work before they are 13 years old
- There are strict limits on the hours young people can
work in the UK, and the type of work they can do
- Anyone employing young people in Britain has to get a permit from the local authority which must be signed by the employer and the child's parent or guardian
- Anyone who neglects, exploits and abuses children in the UK can be imprisoned
