BRITISH LAWS, RELIGIONS and POLITICS:
No one resource can promise to tell you all you need to
know about living and teaching in the UK. But Justteachers
have tried to cover it all!
To summarise some important things you should know:
- If you call 112 or 999 you can report crimes or get help in emergencies
- The UK has a well-structured legal system which is the envy of many countries
- The country's laws are all made by parliament in a democratic process
- The UK police force is highly professional and usually do not carry guns
- Three closely-balanced parties maintain political stability
- Unless your religious beliefs will harm others, you can practise them
- As an immigrant you will be expected to comply with the UK 's laws
- There are serious penalties for breaking laws, but no death penalty
- Ignorance of the law, as in most countries, is no defence
- You will be given legal help and translators if you're in trouble
